A woman working at a fundraiser at a Christian bookstore was shot and wounded by a man last night.

The incident happened near Wicc Christian Bookstore (not far from Santa Monica College) last night around 5 pm, according to the Santa Monica Mirror. Police told the Mirror that the woman was working at a charity car wash fundraiser before the shooting occurred.

At one point, the woman took off running down Pico Boulevard. She flagged down a car with two people in it and asked them to step on it fast, but they weren't quite fast enough: a gunman appeared and sprayed the car with bullets. The bullets wounded the woman, but they didn't hit the driver. The driver made it to Pico and Lincoln, called for help and awaited paramedics.

The woman was seriously injured though she is expected to survive. City News Service reports that she's not cooperating with the investigation. Police did find a suspect and a gun within 90 minutes of the shooting and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder. Because no one is cooperating with the investigation, they're not sure what the motive for the shooting might be. Police are not releasing the suspect's name.
