A woman was killed today when a garbage truck backed over her in Beverly Grove. The garbage truck was in the 8900 block of West Third Street at about 8:30 a.m. this morning when it backed into a pedestrian walking in the street, KTLA reports. ABC7 reported that the woman was in her 60s.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the L.A. Fire Department. Investigators aren't sure yet whether the woman was in the crosswalk or not when she was hit.

Officer Rolando Solano with LAPD's West Traffic Division said pedestrians should be careful before walking into the street near sanitation trucks. "Try to make eye contact with the driver of that vehicle before stepping into the street. Always be aware of your surroundings."
