19-Year-Old Woman Rescued After Being Kidnapped On Christmas
Authorities rescued a 19-year-old woman who had been allegedly held captive and sexually assaulted by her boyfriend in his Palmdale home for ten days since Christmas.
L.A. County Sheriffs deputies arrested Giovanni McKinnis, 19, on Jan. 4 after being alerted by the victim's father, according to CBS Los Angeles. The woman's mother had witnessed the kidnapping, but didn't tell authorities earlier because she was afraid of what McKinnis would do to her daughter as well as her daughter's child. (McKinnis and the victim have a young child together who was taken into protective custody before the incident, reported L.A. Daily News.)
When deputies found the woman, she was conscious, but “basically, he had choked her and she had blacked out” at some point during this ordeal, Sgt. Richard Ruiz of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau told L.A. Daily News.
"They discovered the victim inside, essentially in a bedroom, cowering in fear," Los Angeles Sheriff's Sgt. Brian Hudson told ABC Los Angeles. "They say that she sustained several serious physical injuries to her body."
McKinnis was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping, domestic violence, domestic violence restraining order violation, and false imprisonment. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
