Before there was Thanksgiving Thursday and Carmageddon, there were national holidays when hardly anyone was on the freeway.

This photo from the archives of the old Herald-Examiner collection shows a ghostly 110 freeway with a mostly-recognizable downtown skyline on November 26, 1982 (h/t L.A. Times city editor Shelby Grad).

The caption reads, "Don't recognize it? It's the Harbor Freeway during what's usually morning rush hour, on Thanksgiving."
