Welcome to Pink Friday: Teachers Protest Layoff Warnings
If you've seen random bits of pink clad people today, here's what's going on.
Parents and educators are holding "Pink Friday" protests across the state as school districts face a deadline for issuing layoff notices to teachers at risk of losing their jobs. The California Department of Education estimates that 26,000 teachers could get pink slipped this year.
2,300 to nearly 9,000 could affected in the Los Angeles Unified School District, but keep in mind that these are just warnings. If things go sour, they will become finalized later this year. Some believe that if propositions 1A and 1B are approved by voters on May 19th, that the layoff warnings will be rescinded.
