Video: NYC Mayor Sings 'I Love L.A.' On 'Jimmy Kimmel' After Losing Bet To Garcetti
Mayor Eric Garcetti must be extra giddy this week in celebrating our Kings Stanley Cup victory. After dropping an F-bomb on live TV yesterday at a rally at Staples Center for the hockey team, he later made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to watch New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio follow through with his end of the bargain in a losing bet.
If the Kings had lost to the Rangers for the Stanley Cup, Garcetti would have had to sing "New York, New York" on Kimmel's show. But since the Kings won, de Blasio had to don a black "I <3 LA" t-shirt and croon Randy Newman's "I Love L.A."
De Blasio, along with members of New York City's 52nd Street Project student chorus, sang these lyrics along with accompanying hand gestures:
From the South Bay to the Valley From the West Side to the East Side
Everybody's very happy
'Cause the sun is shining all the time
Looks like another perfect day
De Blasio replied: "Jimmy, this is a hostage situation. I did my best."
And the NYC mayor topped it off by delivering his city's famous Gray's Papaya hot dogs to the studio audience. However, Garcetti refused to eat the NYC dog and brought his own Pink's hot dogs in a Kings lunchbox.
"I'm going to stick with Pink's," Garcetti joked. "They make those Gray's Papaya hot dogs taste like a steaming bag of New York garbage."
Well played, Garcetti. Well played.
