One person has been confirmed dead Thursday at the site of a downed plane near Ventura.

Steve Swindle, a public information officer with the Ventura County Fire Department, told LAist that one plane was confirmed to have crashed northwest of Ventura, with one occupant confirmed dead at the scene. He said that a fire unit is also searching for another possible aircraft, based on a report that someone may have seen a mid-air collision between two planes. It has not yet been substantiated if another aircraft was involved.

The incident was reported before noon in the hills near Solimar Beach, reports the Ventura County Star. Debris has been reportedly spotted on Highway 101 near Emma Wood State Beach. According to fire photographer Bernie Deyo, the confirmed crash site is found just north of the 101 Freeway by Solimar Beach.
