Van Hits, Kills Bicyclist In Compton
A bicyclist died today after being struck by a van in Compton.
The incident happened at around 10:50 a.m. at the 1100 block of East Compton Boulevard, reports KTLA. Authorities believe the driver of the van had attempted to avoid the bicyclist, but failed to do so and crashed into the side of a building.
The bicyclist was declared dead at the scene, while the driver was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. The bicyclist's identity has not been revealed, but he has been described as a man who was about 50 years old, according to City News Service.
The damaged building is occupied by a new real estate company—Compton's Wall Street Realty—that was preparing to have its grand opening later this week. According to KTLA, business owners say they want to hold a fundraiser for the victim's family.
