Police Officer Shot And Injured In Hostage Situation [UPDATED]

An Inglewood police officer has been shot by a gunman in a hostage situation today.

Police officers were notified around 12:30 p.m. about a shooter who had taken a woman hostage in her home on 5th St. in Inglewood, according to KTLA and NBC Los Angeles. Authorities have confirmed at least one of the two officers injured was shot and taken to the UCLA Harbor Hospital. The female officer was noted to be unconscious at the time. It is unclear as to what their conditions are at this point.

Neighbor Kimberly Edwards, who lives across the street from the home, told KTLA that the SWAT officers have entered the home.

In initial reports, two officers had been shot, but Inglewood police Capt. James Madia told KCAL9 that "only one officer was actually struck by gunfire," according to the Los Angeles Times and 10 News.

The hostage victim is a 14-year-old girl, reported NBC Los Angeles.
