5.4 Earthquake Strikes Southern California* We asked if you felt it, and you told us. From rolling high rises to shrugged-off small shaking to memories of Northridge (and Whittier!) to "didn't feel a thing," it's no (fore)shock that this post was our top of the week. Just make sure you double check that earthquake kit and plan, Angelenos!

Video of the Day: Police Knock Cyclist to the Curb This is not in LA, but by far not off our radar considering the frequency with which cyclists and their aggressors make their way into our local news. This is the footage heard 'round the media world this week, as an NYPD cop appears to randomly target one cyclist out of many in a Critical Mass ride and tosses him to the ground.

Another Fireball Over LA? Something Seen Over Santa Monica It's not a bird or a plane, so what the hell is it? Something flying above Santa Monica prompted a tipster to shoot LAist an email, which makes us wonder if it's another mysterious fireball. Is the truth out there?

Kayaking the LA River, Day 3: Marsh Park to Long Beach It was a three-day long trek, but it was done, proving that claims by the Army Corps of Engineers that the river was not navigable, thus not a river, were wrong. This was the third installment of amazing photos of the journey by LAist's Tom Andrews.
