The Cowardly Ray Allen

We need to hear from you.
Today during our spring member drive, put a dollar value on the trustworthy reporting you rely on all year long. The local news you read here every day is crafted for you, but right now, we need your help to keep it going. In these uncertain times, your support is even more important. We can't hold those in power accountable and uplift voices from the community without your partnership. Thank you.

It appears a theme for the Lakers this season will be "Kobe-hating." Whether it's from Shaq or Phil Jackson, Kobe Bryant will endure a lot of criticism this year. But today LAist will focus on the silly comments of Seattle Supersonics guard Ray Allen."If Kobe doesn't see he needs two and a half good players to be a legitimate playoff contender or win a championship in about a year or two he'll be calling out to Jerry Buss that 'We need some help in here,' or 'Trade me,' " Allen said earlier this month. "And we'll all be saying, 'I told you so,' when he says that."

Let's be real here. What does Ray Allen know about winning championships? What does he know about being a legitimate playoff contender? With the exception one very good season in Milwaukee where Allen's Bucks made the Eastern Conference (JV League) Finals, Allen has been a part of lousy teams for most of his career. He's never even taken Seattle to the playoffs.

So what happens when the Lakers play the Sonics in an exhibition game last Monday. Allen sits out with a sore back.

"Sore back?" Bryant said loudly during pregame drills. "You kiddin' me?"

Yeah Kobe, we can't believe it either. Next time, Ray Allen, don't tell a guy who's won three championships how to win one. And when you do pretend like you're a know-it-all when it comes to winning (which you're not), then don't run away from the challenge you've issued. Sore back? Poor Ray. Now worry about your own pathetic team.
