Suicide at the LA Court House Underreported?

LAist gets a lot of email. Most of it is nice, some of it, like this, was gruesome.

Our pal the LA Scumbag wrote us this morning about a suicide that he heard happen, and then took pictures. Be warned the pics are very sad, as is the coverage of this life that was cut short.

Yesterday, I had jury duty downtown. When stepping out at lunch i heard a loud noise and people screaming, so i took out my camera and started snapping pictures. Shortly after i was told to leave by police, after lunch the judge told us it was a woman who jumped off the 19th floor, I was excused from jury duty minutes later. Now what bothers me is the only info i could find on this is a 2 sentence snippet on LA Times, nothing else no age, no reason, nothing. keep in mind she almost took out 2 people on the corner when she landed.

the first 5 pictures are all of what happened.

Met News did write
this today:
An autopsy will be performed Saturday on the body of a 39-year-old Hispanic woman who fell to her death from the roof of the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center yesterday, an investigator for the Los Angeles County coroner told the MetNews late yesterday. “Right now, it appears to be a suicide,” Investigator Elissa Fleak said.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
