Street Racing Car Goes Airborne, Lands Upside Down, And Sparks Fire
A car burst into flames after crashing into a construction site while street racing early Sunday morning. The car landed upside down and amazingly all three passengers suffered only minor injuries.
Firefighters were dispatched to the Peninsula Shopping Center at the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and Indian Peak Road in Rolling Hills Estates just before 3:30 a.m. A construction site, slated to be a Chipotle and Habit Burger, was in flames by the time first-responders arrived at the scene. Firefighters say a car was street racing down Hawthorne Boulevard and flew over a wall and into the building, landing upside down and sparking the blaze. "They were going at a very, very high speed to go through the fence and to clear that wall," Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. David Avila told KTLA.
All three passengers were able to escape the car just after it burst into flames, and only suffered minor injuries, according to ABC 7. The 21-year old driver was arrested on suspicion of a DUI.
The other car that was racing was described as a silver Mustang and it drove away.
