Dodger fans, have no fear. After a long winter, spring training is here! Today, exhibition baseball begins for the Dodgers, as they take on the Florida Marlins in Vero Beach. Scott Erickson of all people will take the hill for the Azul, as Mr. Lisa Guerrero desperately seeks a Major League job again.
So far, the big story out of Vero Beach is the battle for who will play centerfield. Milton Bradley happens to be one of the best defensive center fielders in baseball, and the tempremental Long Beach native isn't about to give JD Drew the Steve Finley treatment by moving to right field. On the other hand, Drew (who played right field next to Andruw Jones in Atlanta last year) wants to play center to reduce the wear and tear on his knee, figuring he'll have to start and stop less often.
While Jim Tracy had seemingly done nothing to attempt to resolve the situation, Bradley and Drew solved it themselves. The two had a nice chat in the outfield one day during batting practice, deciding that Bradley would play center unless Drew's knee was acting up.
LAist hopes the manager agrees with their decision, of course.
In the meantime, we say, "Play Ball."
