Woman Accused Of Running Over Motorcyclist In Bizarre Road Rage Incident
A woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly ran over a motorcyclist in a road rage incident.
Darla Renee Jackson, 25, pleaded not guilty today to the murder of Navy Chief Petty Officer Zachary Buob, 39, UT San Diego reports.
Jackson was driving a black Nissan Altima on Thursday at around 5:30 p.m., while Buob was riding a red Ducati motorcycle, according to CHP. Boub was attempting to merge into traffic from the 5 Freeway to Highway 54 in Chula Vista when the two got into some kind of fight. Jackson hit Buob's motorcycle from behind then ran him over. Buob was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead an hour after the crash.
Jackson's mother, Margie Jackson, has claimed that Buob's death was an accident, not intentional on her daughter's part. She said her daughter was attempting to follow Buob to get his information after he kicked her car.
"He kicked her car like five miles back and he was driving crazily, trying to cut lanes, and when he kicked her car she wanted to get a license plate number. So that's what she tried to do and it was definitely an accident," the mother told NBC San Diego. She said she and her daughter prayed for Buob to survive.
However, a witness, Charmaine Ramilo, said that she saw Buob shake his head, then speed up next to to Jackson's car, according to 10 News. She said Buob said, 'What's up?' to Jackson, and "all of a sudden she tried to sideswipe him." This is when Ramilo said Buob kicked Jackson's car. Ramilo said Jackson "got mad and followed him, tailgated him, tried to get him off the road." However, Ramilo did not see the actual crash.
Buob was a 20-year veteran of the Navy. Jackson has a three-year-old daughter.
