LAPD Chief Beck Meet & Greet Tour to Hit the Westside
The next in a series of community town halls with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, featuring the new LAPD Chief, will be on the Westside next week. On Tuesday when Charlie Beck was chosen, meetings were immediately scheduled for that day in South L.A., followed by one in the Valley on Wednesday and one yesterday in El Sereno.
Next week Tuesday, the tour hits Councilman Bill Rosendahl's district at the Mar Vista Recreation Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
At last night's meeting, Beck distanced himself from Bratton. "[Bratton] doesn't understand the rank-and-file at the level that it's needed to push this deeper, but I do, and that's the difference," he said, according to the LA Weekly. Beck explained that Bratton excelled in making positive changes to leadership, but now is the time to make changes from the ground up, with the officers on the street.
Also, LA Weekly's Jill Stewart appeared on last night's episode of SoCal Connected on KCET, advising Beck to get off the Villaraigosa PR train... and fast:
