A suspected drunk driver almost escaped arrest, after the sheriff's deputies chasing him drove through some mulch, ABC 7 reports.

The deputies' car began smoldering because of the friction from the mulch, halting the chase just off the Imperial Highway exit of the 710 Freeway in Lynwood.

But the drunk driving suspect wasn't that lucky. The deputies found him at home and arrested him.
