Photos: Water Main Break Floods Sunset Blvd. In West Hollywood
Muddy water was gushing through Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, flooding the area and nearby streets this afternoon due to a water main break.
Sunset Boulevard was shut down around La Cienega Boulevard and Sweetzer Avenue after the L.A. Dept. of Water and Power (LADWP) crews responded to reports of the water main break around 2:30 p.m., according to KTLA. Also closed is North La Cienega Boulevard between Sunset Boulevard and Fountain Avenue, and there are more closures expected on Fountain Avenue.
Here are some photos of the flooding:

LADWP has been posting tweets, explaining what's causing the water main break and defending themselves:
During hotter weather pipe breaks are bigger b/c pipes tend to break lengthwise, though in winter they are more frequent w smaller "leaks".

Annual water loss in our system from breaks/leaks and other losses are about 3% total - remarkably low for a city water system in US.

Over last 10 years, total breaks and leaks in our system have declined 40%.
