Firefighters are battling an unusual fire that was sparked after a car slammed into the back of a cafe in Santa Monica and hit a gas line.

The Santa Monica Fire Department tweeted just before 8:30 a.m., Wednesday morning, that firefighters responded to the scene on the 700 block of Montana Avenue. According to KTLA, the car appeared to jump the curb in the parking lot and crashed into the building.

Crews were able to contain the fire in the back of the Cafe de Paris, but the fire in the car remained stubborn and was still burning almost 40 minutes later.

The cafe was open when the crash happened, but it is unclear whether the driver or anyone in the restaurant was hurt. It is also unknown what led to the crash.
