Photos: Freeway Bridge Collapses After Heavy Flooding
A major freeway is closed after heavy flooding washed out a bridge near the state border.
About 30 feet of the eastbound side of the 10 freeway collapsed after heavy flooding from a summer storm washed out a bridge in Riverside County on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters responded to the scene, about 50 miles west of the Arizona border, before 4:45 p.m. and conducted a rescue operation of a pickup truck driver whose vehicle got stuck.
City News Service reports says the driver was rescued just before 7 p.m. and taken to a hospital in Palm Springs.
Both directions of the freeway around the bridge collapse have been closed, with drivers being turned around.
