Pershing Square On Ice

This story is free to read because readers choose to support LAist. If you find value in independent local reporting, make a donation to power our newsroom today.

Pershing Square has once again transformed into a frozen wonderland of twisted ankles and bruised tailbones.

This lovely, downtown park spends most of the year as a grassy knoll and concrete potty, but for a few brilliant weeks during the deep freeze of our LA winter, it becomes a glorious, outdoor ice skating rink for the entire city to enjoy.

Hockey clinics, open-air movies, community and family events and live music make this a destination for approximately half a million spectators and skaters each year. The rink is open 7 days a week through January 15th (including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) and each skate session is 60 minutes. Added bonus, they resurface the ice after each group. Check the schedule for session hours.

Tonight, “Very Be Careful” will be playing a FREE show at 9pm to kick off a series of free Thursday night concerts, co-sponsored by Silver Lake’s musical tastemaker for the tragically hip and johnny-on-the-spot for all things indie, Spaceland Productions, and the L.A. City Department of Recreation & Parks. This weekend, check out the Winter Holiday Festival.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
