Love it or hate it, tonight's New Year's Eve. And while half of the city has vacated for NYE's in Vegas, there's plenty to do right here in LA to welcome '08.


Catch the midnight fireworks in Marina Del Rey. At 11:55 pm and 30-seconds, one firework will be shot into the air for each second, counting down to midnight--and then a few more into 2008. The show be seen from anywhere in the Marina.

Giant Maximus
Giant Village hoists three big tops Downtown tomorrow for some serious DJs and dancing. Stage 1: Tiësto (12midnight to 4am), Robbie Rivera (10pm to 12midnight), Boris M.D. (8pm to 10pm). Stage 2: Roger Sanchez (12midnight to 4am), Kaskade (10pm to 12midnight), Jason Videna (8pm to 10pm). Stage 3: MSTRKRFT, Z-TRIP, Lazaro Casanova, LA Riots, Franki Chan and Omar Kahn. Capacity of the event is limited to 10,500 revelers.

Fantasy Island NYE
Mr. Rourke is hosting a party. That's right, the Ricardo Montalban Foundation is throwing a party at its theatre to support its various performing arts programs. The 21 and older event has three bars, outdoor patios, door prizes and a "tropical oasis dance floor." Be sure to wear your best white suit and black tie...

Brazilian Carnaval
Hop aboard the Queen Mary for a NYE Brazilian Carnaval celebration. Music will be provided by Made in Bahia and DJ Manu Gil. There will be plenty of samba and Ki-xego Axé dancers on deck as well. There's an optional Brazilian food buffet also available for purchase. Dress code: White.

The 90-minute show "Escape Reality" -- part theatre and part magic -- promises lots of surprises. A buffet, champagne and party favors are included.

Fast & Loose
Eight new plays are created and performed within 24 hours in the 9th annual NYE Fast & Loose fest. The madness begins at 8 pm New Year's Eve with writers scrambling to create short plays within given parameters and culminates in an 8 pm production on Jan. 1. Bring the NoDoz.

Family Theatre
The family-friendly evening features audience favorite songs, dances, comedy and performances from past Santa Monica Playhouse productions. The shows come complete with buffet supper, champagne, favors, hats and New Year’s surprises. The late show also features a meet-and-greet with the cast.

House Party
Anywhere you and your friends are gathered. Whether you're swilling Cold Duck and Andre or Opus One and Dom, turn up KCRW -- and turn down the Ryan Cheesecrest/Dick Clark countdown. From 9 pm to 1 am Raul Campos hosts Latin guest DJs, including Gil Cerezo from Kinky, Mexican Dubwiser, DJ Nino from the Pinkertones, DJ Afro from Los Amigos Invisibles, Louis Vega from Masters at Work and Elements of Life, DJ Santi, as well as drop in guests.
