Americans Don't Want to Be OctoMom's OC Neighbor
An annual end-of-the-year poll puts Orange County "OctoMom" Nadya Suleman at the top of a bittersweet heap. The real estate Zillow's users voted the mother of 14, including those octuplets born in early 2009, as the "worst neighbor" in America, edging out second-place "winners" Jon and Kate Gosselin with their brood and tabloid brouhaha, according to the OC Register.
The poll asks users to rate which celebrity they'd "least want next door," and with a year of hectic activity--first at her more modest digs in Whittier, where neighbors were relieved to hear in the weeks after her record-making delivery of the eight babies she would be moving out, then at her roomier new La Habra home--it's no wonder.
Suleman's actual neighbors have had to deal with a barrage of official visits and police calls to her home, as well as the throng of media descending on the area to chart her movement and that of her newborns and older children. (It cost the La Habra PD over $4,000 to "help" Suleman after she moved in, by the way.)
Who else did Americans not want to live next to?
Think reality TV and scandal. Following the Gosselins were the Heenes (aka parents of Balloon Boy), former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, Tiger Woods, and Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi (can someone explain that last one, please?).
It's not all bad news, though. Guess who most Americans want to borrow a cup of sugar from? That's right...the Obamas.
Southern California's Snow-Capped Mountains Are Beautiful. Here's Where To Maximize The View (And Snap A Great Picture)It's been many, many years since we saw this much snow in our mountains. Going up there right now isn't safe, but here are some places where you can enjoy the view and snap a pic.
April Valentine died at Centinela Hospital. Her daughter was born by emergency C-section. She'd gone into the pregnancy with a plan, knowing Black mothers like herself were at higher risk.
A look at years past when snows creeped into our citified neighborhoods, away from the mountains and foothills.
In the face of a drier future, that iconic piece of Americana is on its way out in Southern California.
