More BCS BS
The clowns over at the BCS think they've solved all their problems again, this time by simplifying the system with a greater emphasis on the polls. How clueless are these people?
Sure, if this system were in place last year then USC would have played LSU in the Sugar Bowl. But that's not the point. As long as the BCS continues its history of acting in a reactionary fashion, to fix past years mistakes, they will be ill-equipped to solve future problems. What happens if there are three undefeated teams? Or four one-loss teams? What happens when we debate about a team with a great record, but a weak schedule?
The BCS works just fine in the few years in which you happen to finish a regular season with two, and only two, clear-cut top teams. Otherwise, if you insist on having an undisputed national champion, then a 2-team playoff is awfully silly. LAist suggests that college football either go to an 8-team playoff with major conference champions and two wild cards, or go back to the old system and not obsess over who's number-one. Everything else is garbage.

In the face of a drier future, that iconic piece of Americana is on its way out in Southern California.
