Two men in Willowbrook are dead after one of them accidentally shot and killed his friend before turning the gun on himself early Sunday morning.

Family members identified the man who shot himself as Dominique Barnett, who reportedly pulled out a handgun early Sunday morning while hanging out with a group of about 10 people in front of a house on the 400 block of East 138th Street. Barnett's friend then tried to grab the weapon when it accidentally fired and shot the man trying to intervene. Barnett then shot himself with the gun after the first shot went off. While the shooting is under investigation, authorities don't believe there was any malicious intent on the part of Barnett at this point. "Preliminary investigation is indicating that both the gunshot victims knew each other, and that they were friends," Los Angeles Sheriff's Department detective Steven Lankford told KTLA. At this point, it is unclear why Barnett pulled out the gun in the first place.

"The victim that came over to try disarm him didn’t like the fact that he was brandishing the weapon, tried to disarm him and that’s when the gun went off," said LAPD Lieutenant Eddie Hernandez.

Authorities responded to the scene around 1 a.m. after the shots went off. Barnett was declared dead on the scene, and his friend died at the hospital.
