New Permit Parking Might Be Coming To Silver Lake Thanks To Los Globos
A new preferential parking district might be coming to Silver Lake thanks to people going to Club Los Globos—and the club fully supports the plan.Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Department of Transportation recommend the creation of a new temporary preferential parking district just south of Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake, at the request of Councilman Mitch O'Farrell. Local residents are finding themselves competing with clubgoers to get parking in the neighborhood. "The patrons frequently monopolize the parking from early evening until 2 AM, making it virtually impossible for residents to park near their homes," wrote Seleta J. Reynolds, general manager of LADOT.
The proposed preferred parking restrictions would have no parking from 6 p.m. until 8 a.m., excepting those with the proper permits.
The proposal was first reported by The Eastsider.
"Customers leaving after 2 a.m. are drinking, loitering, and urinating throughout the neighborhood, and the residents are exasperated," wrote Councilman O'Farrell in a letter to LADOT back in August.
In an email to The Eastsider, Los Globos manager Ben Fried said the club fully supported the proposed parking restrictions. "We would never want our patrons to take any resident's parking spaces, and we fully encourage and support permitted parking in our area," he wrote. He added that the club's own parking lot on Sunset Boulevard is "typically only half full" on most nights.
The proposed temporary preferential parking district would cover the following area:
- LDillon Street between Marathon Street and Ellsworth Street
- Marathon Street between Dillon Street and Vendome Street
- Robinson Street between Marathon Street and Descanso Drive
