Protest In Hollywood Demands Recognition For Filipino American Veterans
Protesters have descended upon Hollywood today, claiming that 43,000 Filipino American veterans of them have not been fully recognized for their efforts in World War II.
Justice for Filipino American Veterans, which is composed of veterans, widows and their supporters, have been hosting a march and rally annually since 1997. This year instead of protesting downtown near the Federal building, they've taken their rally to a more heavily-trafficked location in Hollywood.
Here's a description of the cause via Los Angeles Independent Media:
After the post-election victory of re-elected President, the JFAV wrote an appeal and demand letter asking the president to issue an executive order for full recognition of 43,000 Filipino World War II Veterans and their survivors who for more than 66 years were still unrecognized American veterans.
The rally kicked off at noon, and it's scheduled to go on until 3 pm. Metro issued an alertindicating that several bus lines could be detoured until as late as 5 pm, depending on how large the rally is.The protest will affect Hollywood Boulevard between La Brea Avenue & Vine Street; Sunset Boulevard between Cahuenga Boulevard and Highland Avenue; and Highland Avenue between Odin Street and Sunset Boulevard. The affect lines include the 2, 156, 180, 181, 210, 212, 217 & 222.
Here's how these routes will be affected:
Line 2 Eastbound: Regular route to Sunset Blvd. and Orange Dr. then continue via Sunset Blvd. to (R) Highland Ave, (L) Santa Monica Blvd, (L) Vine St, (R) Sunset Blvd. and regular route.
Westbound: Regular route to Sunset Blvd. and Argyle Ave. then continue via Sunset Blvd. to (L) Vine St, (R) Santa Monica Blvd, (R) Highland Ave, (L) Sunset Blvd. and regular route.
Line 156
Northbound: Depart layover on Romaine Ave. via (R) Highland Ave, (R) Santa Monica Blvd, (L) Vine St, (L) Yucca St, (R) Cahuenga Blvd to Odin St. and regular route.
Southbound: Regular route to Cahuenga Blvd. and Barham Blvd. then continue via Cahuenga Blvd.to (L) Odin St, (R) Cahuenga Blvd, (L) Yucca St, (R) Vine St, (R) Santa Monica Blvd, (L) McCadden Pl. and regular route.
