A storm coupled with lightning hit Sunland this afternoon, and now hundreds of homes are facing power outages, according to DWP, which tweeted out the following message:
Sunland Power Outage: 744 customers w/o power due possible lightning strike. Crews on scene & will work 2 repair equip & restore power ASAP.

The Los Angeles Fire Department's Katherine Main told City News Service that strong winds knocked down the high tension wires in the 8200 block of West Apperson Street were down starting around 3:16 p.m.
Gadi Schwartz of NBC Los Angeles is live-tweeting about the lightning and power outages. He reported that high tension wires out at Woodward Avenue and Foothill Boulevard are sparking in the street from a lightning strike:

Other residents may also be without power soon. Schwartz tweeted: "More #Sunland customers about to lose power as crews de-energize lines... 1600 additional customers may lose power."
