After an pathetic 115-107 loss to the Jazz last night, in which they gave up career highs to both Mehmet Okur and Gordan Giricek, the Lakers find themselves 4.5 games out of a playoff spot. LAist now has a message to the Lakers for the reaminder of the season: Give Up.Sometimes things need to get worse before they can get better. The Lakers are in desperate need of a big man and a point guard, and with Brian Grant eating up $12 million in cap space through 2007, they can't exactly sign one soon.

So Kobe, let your team enter the exciting world of the NBA Draft Lottery! Just think, LA could wind up with a top three pick, and get a top big man like Utah's Andrew Bogut or Martynas Andriuskevicius from Lithuania. Or they could answer their point guard problems by drafting Chris Paul out of Wake Forest, Deron Williams from Illinois, Raymond Felton from North Carolina, or Jarrett Jack from Georgia Tech.

Going into the lottery might just be a better way to improve the Lakers rather reaching for the 8-seed and losing to San Antonio in the first round. So, give up, get a new coach, and wait until next year. Lakerland will be better for it.
