A woman was shot and killed inside a car in Koreatown, and the gunman is critically injured after turning the gun on himself.
Around 6:30 a.m., Friday morning, LAPD officers responded to a report of gunshots around James M. Wood Boulevard and South Kingsley Drive. A woman was found shot inside of a car, and taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The suspected gunman was later found two blocks away, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It was initially reported that he was pronounced dead, but Officer Jane Kim of the LAPD confirmed with LAist that he was listed in critical condition.
According to KTLA, the woman was a 39-year-old who lived in the area. Police told KTLA that the victim and the gunman had a history of domestic violence, and that the man was possibly the woman's ex-husband.
Update [10:15]: A witness who lives two blocks from the shooting tells LAist that he and his girlfriend were woken up around 4:45 a.m. to the sound of a woman shouting. "She was angry, didn't sound scared or panicked or anything and we didn't hear anyone else's voice," he said. "At a point, she was shouting the address or our building, since she was in front of it."
Update [3:10]: The victim has been identified as Gladis Maribel Sicajan, who was a mother of three. According to ABC 7, the man who shot her was her estranged husband.
