LA Observed's Kevin Roderick couldn't post his daily Morning Buzz column at the time he wanted. "Cable outage; will post soon," he wrote. Almost two hours later, he finally posted the column. In an e-mail, Roderick said his service is Time Warner, saying that it has "been erratic the last few days."

Last week, many LAist readers agreed that Time Warner's internet service has been out of whack. In fact, major portions of the city were out for hours at at time for two or three nights in a row. Customer service, many said, was not helpful in solving, or at least, explaining what was happening.

One reason may be a law--AB 2987--that passed last year, finds Patrick Range McDonald in his story on public-access television. "City Hall’s loss of power over local franchise agreements — power that will now rest with the far-off state Public Utilities Commission — wipes out L.A.’s leverage to demand improved local customer service and programming," he wrote. Now Time Warner (and other providers) can pretty much get away with anything in terms of customer service.
