Dear LAist: Can I Get Some Hybrid Parking Clarification Here?
Dear LAist; So the City Council changed the law for hybrid car parking on Friday, then reneged it yesterday. So as of today, what the hell can I do?
So here's the deal:As of right now, the pilot program for hybrids that has been in effect for the last few years is still current today. That means that the four hybrid vehicles -- Honda Insight, Honda Civic Hybrid, Toyota Prius, and the Ford Escape Hybrid -- are still able to park for free at Los Angeles City parking meters without being required to have a Clean Air Vehicle Decal.
Things to remember are:
- This is in regards to Los Angeles city limits only. Check with smaller cities such as West Hollywood, Santa Monica, etc when parking there.
- Hybrids must still honor time restrictions; free parking doesn't mean free parking all day in most spots.
- This law will likely change soon as budget hearings are around the corner, so stay tuned (for uber nerds, follow Council File 04-1362).
