One man has died after he allegedly pulled a gun on police, which led to a fatal officer-involved shooting in a Hollywood Hills apartment, reports the L.A. Times.

Sal Ramirez, a public information officer with the LAPD, told LAist that the incident stemmed from a report that was called in around 11 p.m. on Thursday night. When officers arrived at the 7200 block of Hillside Avenue, they made contact with the man who'd called in the report; he requested that officers escort him to his fourth floor apartment so that he could retrieve his property. According to ABC 7 the man said that he was having a dispute with his roommate.

Sgt. Frank Preciado of the LAPD said that, while officers were in the apartment, the roommate "produces a handgun and at that point an officer-involved shooting occurred" inside the apartment, according to the Times. The suspect later stepped out onto the fourth floor balcony and a second officer-involved shooting happened, during which the suspect was shot and killed.

In video shot by residents, dozens of gunshots could be heard, reports the Times.

Officers say that they had no warning that the roommate might be armed. "When we spoke to the person reporting, that initiated the call, there was no mention of any firearm. It wasn't until the officers made contact with the individual, which was the roommate. He quickly became a suspect armed with a handgun," Preciado said, according to ABC 7.

The suspect is described as a hispanic man in his 20s. No officers were injured in the shootings.

An investigation is ongoing at the scene.
