The Dodgers thrust themselves back into the division race, beating the Giants for the second time in three nights 5-4, thanks to Tommy Lasorda.

With Shawn Green mired in a two-year slump, Lasorda gave the first baseman a pep talk. Green answered with a home run and a game-winning double.

"Tommy told me to keep going and just believe in myself," Green said. "More than anything, that just made me feel good."

"That's what I was talking about," Lasorda said. "You think this guy forgot how to hit? No way."

It's great to see Lasorda helping the Dodgers every now and again, and LAist welcomes him to give pep talks to our staff anytime.

In the meantime, things are looking further up for the Dodgers, as GM Paul DePodesta announced LA would in fact be buyers and not sellers at the trade deadline. Additionally, it does not look like Hideo Nomo will cost the Dodgers games any time soon, as he was placed on the 15-day DL for inflammation in his right rotator cuff. without even being examined by a doctor.

With the Angels suddenly reeling, now 4 games back and in third place after being swept in Oakland, the Dodgers are the team with the momentum as the Southland rivals prepare for their interleague showdown this weekend in Anaheim.
