2 Men Dead After Running Red Light To Get Away From The Cops
Two men were killed after they ran a red light and plowed into an SUV in an effort escape the cops.
CHP officers busted a large "sideshow" event on Main Street between Compton and Redondo Beach Boulevards, in an unincorporated area near Gardena. According to CBS 2, the event had up to 100 cars gathered in the area around 2:40 a.m., Sunday morning. Such gatherings are apparently common in the mostly-industrial area.
"Officers observed in the middle of [the] intersection an orange Scion doing 'donuts' until officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and tried to conduct a traffic stop," CHP Officer Edgar Figueroa told City News Service. The driver of the Scion fled and a few minutes later, at the intersection of Broadway and Redondo Beach Boulevard, ran a red light and crashed into a Chevy Suburban going westbound on Redondo Beach Boulevard.
Both men in the Scion were pronounced dead at the scene and their car was completely wrecked. The driver of the Suburban, the only person in the car, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
