A woman on her way to celebrate her birthday was injured and her car riddled with bullets in an apparently random shooting on a freeway in North Hollywood last night.

The 20-something woman was driving on the 170 freeway near Sherman Way last night when someone in the backseat of another car opened fire with a semi-automatic pistol, according to City News Service. The woman's neck was grazed with a bullet. She was driving with her boyfriend, father and child, but fortunately none of them were injured. A total of 8 bullets hit the car, and one grazed the child's safety seat.

It happened just after 7 pm Friday night and so far no suspects have been taken into custody. The suspect's car was described as a white, newer-model 4-door with tinted windows.

The woman exited at Sherman Way and then tried to get back on the freeway to make it to a hospital. But she had run into a curb at some point hard enough to get a flat. She was taken to a nearby hospital and she's expected to survive.

KTLA is reporting the terrifying prospect that this shooting could be completely random. Investigators told the TV station that the victim said she did not know the shooter and that it did not appear to be a case of road rage. We'll update you if we hear any differently.
