Tax Day Relief: Food And Drink Deals On April 15

Whether you have to pay taxes or you're getting some cash back this year, who couldn't use a deal on food and drinks? We found a few places offering some amazing specials on April 15, including drinks for under a buck and a free burger if you'll sing for it.

$1 Cocktails

The 1933 Group bars are all doing their own Tax Day promotions again this year. Each one has a different cocktail for $1 between 5 and 9 p.m.

Harlowe (7321 Santa Monica Blvd.) and Oldfield's Liquor Room (10899 Venice Blvd.) have Old Fashioneds; Sassafras (1233 N. Vine) is doing a 'Death and Taxes' with scotch, gin, sweet vermouth, Benedictine and orange bitters; Bigfoot Lodge (3172 Los Feliz Blvd.) is doing a 'Taxydermy' with rum, lime and bitters; Bigfoot West (10939 Venice Blvd.) is doing an old fashioned or a pisco punch (Kappa Pisco, spiced simple syrup, pineapple, orange juice, process); the Thirsty Crow has The Tax Man's Hat (rye, sweet vermouth, bitters); and La Cuevita (5922 N. Figueroa Blvd.) has a tax mule made with Reyka vodka, hibiscus flowers and ginger beer.

Plan Check

Plan Check has a special tax day cocktail. The Smokey Juarez consists of Xicaru Blanco Mescal, blood orange, lemon juice, simple syrup and a pinch of smoked salt. It'll take $7 out of your refund. You'll also be able to peruse a happy hour menu from 4 to 7 p.m. that includes a Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich and a Pimento Grilled Cheese & Bacon—and Better Call Saul fans will note that a pimento cheese sandwich is Mike's weapon of choice. Plan Check has three locations: 1800 Sawtelle Blvd.; 351 N. Fairfax Ave; 1111 Wilshire Blvd.

The Whisper

The Whisper at the Grove will be shaking and/or stirring martinis for FIFTEEN CENTS all day. Starting at 11:30 a.m. all the way to 10 p.m., you will be able to score these unfathomably cheap classic martinis. There is a two-martini limit per person, and you must also purchase a lunch or dinner entrée. The Whisper is located at 189 The Grove Dr., F90b, at the Grove.


CulinaYou might not know what to do with your return, and we're pretty sure your shortlist doesn't include 'eat crudo all night,' but why not? Culina is offering a deal on Crudo all night long that includes three-piece $6 crudo, $7 carafes and cocktails, $5 craft beers and cicchetti between $5-9. Cicchetti is a type of Venetian tapas. Culina's offerings include truffle risotto croquettes ($9) and American Waygu Meatballs ($5), among others. Crudo selections include a halibut with strawberries, pickled shallots, chili and frisee; and Cappesante with fava bean puree, black truffle and lemon oil. Culina is located at 300 S Dohenry Dr. in Beverly Hills.

Sing A Song For Bret Michaels, Get A Burger

Okay, this seems odd, but if you sing a song for Bret Michaels (yeah, that one), he will give you a free burger. You have to show up between 5 and 7 p.m. to the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood and karaoke one song with a live band. Then, the "Local Legendary Hollywoodland Burger" is yours. That's a burger with bacon, cheddar cheese, an onion ring, lettuce and tomato. Hard Rock Hollywood is located at 6801 Hollywood Blvd. at Highland.

The Dog Haus

The Dog Haus will be offering tallboys of PBR for $1 at their locations in Pasadena, Burbank, Alhambra, Thousand Oaks and West Covina. The tallboys will come in Dog Haus Koozies, and it's the perfect cold session domestic to wash down one of their hot dogs.

Bacari PDR, Bacaro LA

BacaroLA in University Park and BacariPDR in Playa Del Rey serving their happy hour small plates and drink deals without tax. Both locations' happy hour consists of $6 small plates and $6 wells, plus $8 signature cocktails and $5 sangria.

The District by Hannah An

Vietnamese fusion restaurant The District is offering a craft cocktail called the 1040EZ for only a dime, so long as you also purchase a cocktail at regular price. The 1040EZ is a twist on the mojito, made with Flor de Cana rum, organic Vietnamese tiato mint agave, lime juice, club soda and garnished with ginger zest. Also, anyone who posts about being at The District on social media will receive a free small plate. The District is located at 8722 W 3rd St. in Beverly Hills.

Copa d'Oro

Copa d'Ora has their Tax Day special on Thursday, April 16 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. During that time, patrons will get money back based on their tab 'bracket.' Customers who spend between $0 to $25 will get 10 percent back, $26 to $50 gets 51 percent back and tabs over $51 will earn 25 percent back. They'll also be mixing up a few cocktails just for Tax Day including the IRS-Capade (bourbon, apricot liqueur, mint, lemon, orange juice) and the Liquid Asset (tequila, lychee liquor, lime and ginger beer) for $9. Copa d'Oro is located at 217 Broadway in Santa Monica.

ACME's $7 Cocktails

The ACME Hospitality Group bars each have their own $7 craft cocktail named after an infamous tax evader that will be available, in their words, "all damn day" on April 15. For instance, Beelman's Pub (600 S Spring St) is doing The MezcAl Capone with El Silencio Mezcal, lime and spiced apple syrups. Library Bar (630 W 6th St, DTLA), Sixth Street Tavern and Spring St. Bar (626-B S Spring St., DTLA) will each have their own cocktail as well.

The Detour Bistro Bar

The Detour Bistro Bar is doing happy hour from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Deal includes 22 different beers between $4 to $6.50; wines at $6 to $8; and classic cocktails at $8. Food specials include $5 chicken skewers, $10 flatbreads, $8 shrimp tacos and a $5 watermelon feta salad. Detour Bistro Bar is located at 12473 W Washington Blvd., Culver City.
