We can't hold those in power accountable and uplift voices from the community without your partnership.

Some of Los Angeles' best bartenders will go head-to-head to create their own, original cocktails. And the best part is that guests will get to sample their creations. The May Mix-Off takes place at The Mixing Room at JW Marriott Los Angeles at L.A. Live every Wednesday throughout the month of May, beginning tonight. The free event will feature bartenders from some of L.A.'s top cocktail bars trying to outdo one another with new and tasty beverages.

The winners from each week will advance to the next round, and the ultimate cocktail champ will win a trip to Tale of the Cocktail in New Orleans. These bartenders will be judged on cocktail quality and presentation, as well as performance. Past participants have incorporated everything from fire to liquid nitrogen in their elixirs.

Tonight's event will feature a meet-and-greet with the month's competitors and a free mixology class at 6 p.m. Contestants include Dan Scott from Upstairs at Ace Hotel, Darwin Pornel from Faith & Flower, Scott Carnwath from Clifton's Cafeteria, Bethany Ham from The Corner Door and others.

Competitions will occur on May 11, 18 and 25 at 7 p.m., and LAist's own Danny Jensen will be emceeing the final show on the 25th.
