Today's LA Times online has a great foodie feature called 20 Delicious Deals that lists a variety of spots around town where you can do some good eating for great prices. Unlike the earlier Los Angeles mag piece on 25 under $25, the Times didn't set a price cap, or aim to have full meals at all their spots, but instead selected outstanding single menu items, like a Pain au chocolat at Pacific Palisades' À la Tarte for $2.75 or an asada taco in Studio City at Tortas Mexico for the bargain price of $2.10. They also have some higher end choices and complete meals, of which we've spied a couple spots we'd like to try, like the $10.50 Sashimi lunch special at Sushi Gen, or the Sunday night three course supper at the elegant and popular Lucques, which runs $35 per person. Delicious, indeed!

On the more somber side, the Times also has an obit, an appreciation of, and memorial page for their own respected food writer, David Shaw, who passed away yesterday at age 62 from a brain tumor.
