Delicious Spree LA to Z...D is for Diddy Riese

LAist is going on a delicious spree around LA from A to Z. This week, LAist dabbles in D.

Inspired by the more indulgent Ice Cream Summer adventures at Fosselman's and Lickety Split, LAist now goes bargain basement with Diddy Riese in the heart of Westwood Village.

We must ask, "How on earth does Diddy Riese stay in business?" Even with a line 30-deep, out the door, down the street, LAist just can’t see how 2 cookies and a scoop of ice cream sold one-at-a-time for just $1 each can pay for the Westwood overhead and wages for five men behind the counter. There’s gotta be something else going on back there.

But if there is, and we knew what it was, we'd never tell, because we love chocolate chip on one side, cinnamon sugar on the other, and strawberry cheesecake ice cream squashed in between. *inhales ice cream cookie sandwich in one fell swoop*

We still can't believe it's only a dollar!

A co-worker told us in a hushed tone that the reason the cookies taste so good is that they are made with *whisper it now* "pork lard." There was a dramatic pause and he looked at us as if we were going to *gasp* with disgust. To his dismay, we laughed. And yes, we laugh even now. Of course they taste good because they're made with lard. That's why we eat it - it tastes so damn good.

We'll take espresso chip ice cream with one white chocolate chip macadamia and one M&M cookie now, please. Oh heck, make that two. We're livin' large now!
