Born in 1987? You Can Get A Dozen Free Bagels This Week

Before you
Dear reader, we're asking you to help us keep local news available for all. Your tax-deductible financial support keeps our stories free to read, instead of hidden behind paywalls. We believe when reliable local reporting is widely available, the entire community benefits. Thank you for investing in your neighborhood.

Bagel Broker, which we included in our recent list of best bagels in L.A., is turning 30 this month. And instead of wallowing in despair over high home prices, shaky career prospects, and a sputtering love life, the Fairfax district shop is celebrating in grand fashion with a couple happenings. There's a create-a-sandwich contest, for instance, in which participants customize a sandwich using the shop's bagels. The winner gets a year's worth of free bagels, with the winning sandwich being installed on the menu for a limited time.

If you're too lazy to concoct a whole new sandwich, there's a easier way to score free bagels (if you're 29 or 30 years old). All week long, the shop will be giving out a dozen free bagels to anyone born in 1987. You must present an ID, of course, and you'll get to choose from the shop's entire slate of bagels. May we recommend the cheddar jalapeño bagel if you're looking for something beyond the usual?

The promotion ends on Sunday (meaning you can still get free bagels that day). When we asked evening manager Jamie Esquivel if the shop will be ramping up production to keep up with the promo, he gave us a very succinct "yes." One major caveat: you can get the dozen free bagels only once this week, so pick wisely.
