A man was killed after his car had crashed into a pole and a tree during a high-speed pursuit on early Monday morning, reports the L.A. Times.

The chase began at around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Morton Avenue and East 83rd Street in South Los Angeles. The man, driving a Chevrolet Impala, was spotted running stop signs and weaving on the road, reports ABC 7. When officers attempted to pull him over for a DUI check, he drove away and led officers on a chase. A minute into the pursuit, the man struck a pole and a tree on Manchester Avenue between McKinley Place and South Central Avenue. According to California Highway Patrol officers, he had been traveling at speeds above 100 mph.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released. No other passengers were believed to have been inside the car.
