Video: Ellen Page Confronts Senator Ted Cruz Over LGBT Issues
Canadian actress Ellen Page took a fellow Canadian to task today, confronting Texas senator Ted Cruz over LGBT issues.
Page was at the Iowa State Fair on Friday, much like Cruz and several of his fellow GOP candidates, and posed a question of LGBT rights to the senator as he grilled pork chops before news cameras. "What about the question of LGBT people being fired for just strictly being gay or trans?" asked Page, going incognito with a baseball cap and sunglasses. Cruz immediately reframed the question as a matter of religious liberty and, eventually, about Iran and ISIS as the two went back and forth for the next few minutes.
Page came out as a lesbian last year during a speech at a Human Right's Campaign conference.
Cruz, who is one of 17 candidates in the crowded Republican field, vehemently opposes marriage equality and called the Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage one of "the darkest 24 hours in our nation's history."
