Labor Day Weekend Edition

AMC is going to split this party up and that's a fail: "The Walking Dead" to have 2nd half of its season air in 2012
This is a long weekend with precious little new television, but perhaps that's one of the points of Labor Day - watching TV is an uncompensated task that we should be able to take a break from. Other than the comedy special marathon on Showtime this Monday, there weren't a lot of marathons to take note of this extended weekend. Thank you Chelsea Handler and Craig Ferguson for producing new episodes of your shows for Monday night. Take a deep breath, though, as the Fall season begins this week with "Sons of Anarchy" and a few other shows stepping up with a tsunami of shows starting mid-September.
I have to backpedal a bit here on AMC. While I was pleased to see AMC's investment in a 90-minute premiere of "The Walking Dead" this season, I think splitting the season into 2 segments, with the 2nd half next year is a colossal mistake. This kind of dicking around with a show schedule doesn't work, it's what was lethal to TNT's "Men of a Certain Age" and it will definitely keep the viewing audience of "The Walking Dead" from its full potential.
Speaking of TNT, the network has canceled its medical drama "HawthoRNe" but it's too late to help "Men of a Certain Age." The payroll for the Jada Pinkett Smith-driven show was probably considerable, I wonder what TNT will do with this freed-up budget and airtime
