TV Junkie: Letterman & Phoenix & U2; LA Cops on TV ....Again
While we still don't believe that Joaquin Phoenix's schtick on Letterman last night isn't anything other than a stunt, it doesn't mean that show's like "Late Night" need to go along with it. Do the producers of his latest movie, we don't even remember what it's called, think that this has helped them? What's your take - is Phoenix faking or tripping?
Also speaking of Letterman, U2 will be the featured band on "Late Night" for the week of March 2nd to March 6th. Perhaps they're making up for not appearing for 8 years or perhaps this promotion of their new album is also a way for Letterman to counter the early days of Conan O'Brien's move to "The Tonight Show", a transition that happens at about the same time.
Cops in LA are in the TV business and not just redirecting traffic for shoots. This week LA County has approved the sixth reality TV show about a police agency, this time the Sheriff's Department, despite criticism from groups and individuals such as Los Angeles Police Commission Inspector General Andre Birotte Jr. that these shows misrepresent the work of law enforcement and carry other risks as well.
