While we didn't make it to the 15th annual Webby Awards we did get this clip (above) of the Funny or Die team getting honored with an award. We heard great things about the event and hope we can make it next year since we're old timers who were at the first three Webbys. The event was hosted by Lisa Kudrow who did a great job. If you watched the Webbys on Facebook let us know what you thought.
Oxygen's "The Glee Project" had a dismal opening this Sunday that I hope limits the spread of "Glee"-like or "Glee"-affiliated programs on TV. If there has to be a "Glee" then let there be one "Glee" on one channel. I didn't crap on this show before it aired because I'm not that kind of critic. If the popularity of "Glee" brings in enough money to create truly dramatic and artistic programs, I'm all for it but "Glee" probably only works because it has a unique composition that can't be replicated or parasitized. I hope the failure of "The Glee Project" gives Fox pause as it considers to "Glee"-ify this Fall's Primetime Emmys with Jane Lynch as host. Hint for Fox: That would suck.
Yesterday we highlighted Conan O'Brien's Dartmouth commencement speech and today we'd like you to check out Fred Armisen's graduation speech that he gave to a class of high school seniors in Portland, OR (at the end of this post). Take a walk down memory lane and read our January interview with Armisen.
Tracy Morgan will be returning to Nashville to apologize for the anti-gay rant/bit he did in his comedy act there about a week ago. Again, let's put this in perspective, Morgan is an actor and comedian, he said his bit in a comedy club in Nashville, not on TV or in any kind of political space. If only people would get as excited (as they should) about people like Rick Santorum who had an anti-gay agenda when he was a senator and he'd is trying to put into federal law if he gets elected president in 2012. GLAAD is playing into the hands of the people who truly do want to deny basic rights to homosexuals.
