TV Junkie: Weekend Highlights; 'Men of a Certain Age' Mid-Season Finale

Our June member drive is live: protect this resource!
Right now, we need your help during our short June member drive to keep the local news you read here every day going. This has been a challenging year, but with your help, we can get one step closer to closing our budget gap. Today, put a dollar value on the trustworthy reporting you rely on all year long. We can't hold those in power accountable and uplift voices from the community without your partnership.

Would love to hear opinions from readers about last night's premieres of: "Californication," "Episodes," "Shameless," and "The Cape." Please post below.

One of the highlights of Jim Carrey's hosting of "SNL" was the hilariously creepy amusement park sketch - it's embedded at the end of this post, check it out. If you didn't get enough Jim Carrey last week and this weekend, he is the subject of tonight's "Inside the Actors Studio" on Bravo at 8pm.

We can't deny we're in the throes of peak NFL-ish-ness so check out the above clip of the "Pro Bowl Shuffle" by the crew from "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" featuring special guests Will Arnett and Horatio Sanz, get the full lyrics here although we've watched this enough to have them partially memorized already. Check out the original tune Fallon & Co. is spoofing: "The Super Bowl Shuffle" by the Chicago Bears.

Tonight's "Men of a Certain Age" mid-season finale is a road trip focused exclusively on our 3 protagonists and it's _great_!
Tonight at 10pm on TNT will feature the mid-season finale of "Men of a Certain Age" which returns in June for six more episodes. This is a smart move as last year's broadcasts were constantly getting rearranged because of NBA finals on TNT - the show would be there one week, then it would be gone, resulting in confusion for viewers. We'll keep you posted on the exact return date of the show but in the meantime we'll urge you to check out tonight's excellent episode. Our three protagonists, played by Ray Romano, Scott Bakula, and Andre Braugher, remain together for the entire episode with many high points and some great moments of introspection. Great performances abound during this mini-road trip which culminates in an intense, yet, very funny altercation. We'll miss this show over the next 5 months! If you want to hear more about the show, comedian and show host Greg Fitzsimmons had show creators Ray Romano and Mike Royce on one of his most recent podcasts, definitely worth the listen. Also, interestingly, "Men of a Certain Age" is a sponsor of another great podcast, the "WTF with Marc Maron" - Maron has been enjoying some amazing attention lately, including a piece in the New York Times among others.

Speaking of podcasts, our friend, the comedian, TV star and show host Greg Proops will be hosting his free proopcast, "The Smartest Man in the World" at Bar Lubitsch in West Hollywood this Wednesday at 6:30pm. Proops' recent shows in San Francisco garnered rave reviews as did his fabulous hair. We will be there on Wednesday in the hopes that some of his knowledge rubs off on us.
