TV Junkie: De Niro to Host 'SNL' Tomorrow; 'Tron' Premiere Online; 'Boardwalk Empire'/'Walking Dead' Finales
This weekend we will have to deal with more than our regular cadre of zombies, bootleggers, and serial killers as Saturday night will feature Robert "Bobby" De Niro hosting "Saturday Night Live." De Niro has hosted "SNL" in 2002 and 2004 but do you remember any sketches he was in? He seems to have loosened up a little bit from what we can see in the above promos so we're hoping that the writers will fully take advantage of the opportunity as they did when the real NY Governor Patterson guested a few weeks ago. Some manufactured piece of garbage called Diddy-Dirty Money will be the musical guest, again proving that "SNL" has no clue how to pick a decent musical guest, we suggest hiring our friend Molly Bergen who was a regular music writer here at LAist and now does a smashing job at LA Weekly.
If you are as worked up into a froth over Tron: Legacy as we are then you'll want to watch the LiveStream of the London premiere this Sunday at 9:30am Pacific. The film's stars Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde, and director Joseph Kosinski will be interviewed and all precedings can be viewed HERE.
Weekend Highlights: Tonight "The Soup" will have its milestone 300th episode, expect special guests and hijinks. Saturday will feature "SNL" which could turn out to be great, a trainwreck, or mediocre, but we are perennially hopeful. Sunday will have the season finales of both "Boardwalk Empire" and "The Walking Dead" - we're guessing, and this is purely guessing since we haven't received screeners for either of these, is that "Boardwalk Empire" will leave our friend Nucky in a cliffhanger and "The Walking Dead" will not be a cliffhanger. I'm thinking this way because Martin Scorsese always knew his series was going to get another season and AMC had no idea how a zombie drama would play with its other sophisticated fare.
If you will be watching the ball drop in Times Square this New Year's, the ball drop will be powered by electricity being gathered at Duracell power stations (see the video below). Also, we found a video (end of post) of Muno from "Yo Gabba Gabba!" skateboarding near downtown Los Angeles.
