We've had some generically positive comments posted here regarding Conan O'Brien's return to late night TV but what is it specifically that is so great about him being back? As we wondered on our post this Monday, will Conan push the envelope of what is acceptable on basic cable - sure enough, he did a segment where he sat down with TBS' standards & practices officer (aka the censor) to see what he could or couldn't do. Needless to say it was very funny but what it illustrated is that O'Brien knows he's in a new environment and that he has more freedom than he did on NBC = watch out.
We knew that Scarlett Johansson was to host this weekend's "Saturday Night Live" (with musical guest Arcade Fire) but we didn't know it was to be for the 3rd time (she's only 25). We remember that she wasn't the best of guest hosts the last time she did it or are we confusing her with (yet) another mediocre guest host? Do you think she has the chops to be one of the most repeated female guest hosts for "SNL"? Obviously Lorne Michaels likes her but is there no other voice of reason there? See the promo clip at the end of this post.---
We posted an interview with Ray Romano earlier this week and we'd like to tell you about a benefit he's hosting this Saturday night at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre & Club (4401 West 8th St.): the International Myeloma Foundation 4th Annual Comedy Celebration benefiting the Peter Boyle Memorial Fund. The show runs from 5:30-9:30pm and other than Romano will include: Doris Roberts, Dana Carvey, Peter Gallagher, Joe Manganiello, Lo Bosworth, Doug Reinhardt, Fred Willard, Ken Jeong, Susie Essman, Judd Nelson, Cassie Scerbo, Alex Trebek, Marlee Matlin, Alfre Woodward, Sasha Choen, and more. It's a great cause and as we've lost family members to multiple myeloma, we can't think of a better way to enjoy ourselves with these great comics and actors while raising funds.
