TV Junkie: Fallon Ustreams; Boring 'Idol'

Crystal Bowersox will be appearing in the finale of what Metacritic is calling the most boring "American Idol" season yet. [Photo courtesy of Fox]
Jimmy Fallon did something pretty cool last night, he Ustreamed a live session of him and almost his entire staff while "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" was being broadcast on the East Coast in an online service called "Watch Jimmy With Jimmy". The spontaneity of the Ustream feed made the actual show on NBC superfluous and we kind of doubt that many of the 10,000 viewers who participated in "Watch Jimmy With Jimmy" ended up watching very much of anything other than the Ustream feed. Fallon discussed his history with certain staff members, Higgins and the gang cracked jokes, and there was hootenanny-style singing. We're not sure when he'll do it again next but we'd watch it again.

Metacritic has released a ranking of the last 9 seasons of "American Idol" which has its finale tonight starting at 8pm on Fox. What we found remarkable was not how poorly this most recent season ranked, but the fact that we remembered only a handful of the winners and runner-ups and we remembered them for reasons other than their "talent". One would think that being designated an "Idol" would have more staying power than a couple months but in most cases, it appears not.
